Why is it called Manuka?

Manuka is the name of the flowering bush that evidence shows originated in Australia. The technical name is Leptospermum Scoparium but is also commonly known as the Tea Tree plant or Jelly Bush. In Australia we have up to 87 species of the Manuka tree.

Our honey bees forage on the Manuka tree and produce honey from its nectar. This honey is well known for its antibacterial properties and has been used as a natural alternative to medicine for many years

Some of Australia’s best Manuka comes from the East of Australia, generally the warmer the climate the better grade and the higher the antibacterial properties. It’s just amazing what comes from this humble looking bush. #manukatree #teatree #manukahoney #australianmanuka #jellybush
